Overview
Sponsored by Airstream, this project explores music subcultures like techno and hyper-pop that incorporate sounds typically deemed too harsh and abrasive for mainstream music. These genres are massively shaped by queer artists like SOPHIE, and deal with ideas like euphoria and dysphoria. Likewise, the structure grapples with itself, stripping its “dysphoric” standardized assemblies, for something “euphoric,” less uniform, and less focused on the “correct” way of building, while the process of music-making progresses inside of it.
While standard studios are designed for isolation, this structure integrates the loud, existing site it occupies. Its proximity to the Airstream factory allows for the collection of industrial sounds for music production. This project features a space for every step of the music-making process, including sound sampling, uploading, mixing, arranging, and finally, music performance.
